Snapchat’s growth in the number of daily users

Recent data on Snapchat’s user growth shows that the number of daily active users on the network rose by 17.6% in 2022. Despite the double-digit increase, it marked a slight slowdown from the previous years’ growth rates. In 2021, Snapchat’s user base growth rose by 20.4%, which came after an even higher 21.6% increase in 2020.

These Snapchat user growth figures, while impressive, were a slowdown from an earlier period. According to Snapchat growth statistics, the number of users on the social media platform skyrocketed by 50.7% in 2015, to 107 million. Not only was this the first time the number of Snapchat users surpassed 100 million, it was also the biggest annual increase between 2015 and 2022.

Snapchat’s growth in its number of daily active users continued for two more years. In 2016, this rose by 47.7%, to 158 million, before a slowdown in 2017 brought its user growth rate to 187 million.

In 2018, Snapchat’s user growth rate registered at -0.5%, which represented a fall of 1 million users, to 186 million. According to the company, the decline was due to a redesign rolled out at the end of 2017, which did not sit well with users.

A closer look at Snapchat’s daily active users in 2018 shows that the year had started off with 191 million users in the first quarter, before falling to 188 million in the second quarter. The dip continued in Q3, to 186 million, and the company managed to hold this figure steady to close out the year at 186 million.

Snapchat’s user growth bounced back in 2019, with an increase of 17.2%. This was followed by two years of growth rates at over 20%. From 2015 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of Snapchat users was 24.1%.
